DOGE this -- We Need More Govies to reduce Federal spending – NOT Less
Some would have you believe less Govies (Government employees) less cost, but there is a bigger more expensive problem – contractors. Many contract jobs are non-governmental in nature, building planes, making uniforms etc.
But in many cases, contractors do the same work as federal employees, and they often work in government offices and use government email addresses --at an increased cost.
Federal civilian employment has stayed the same since the mid-1960s, even as the U.S. population has grown by 2/3rds and a 500% increase in federal spending -- even after adjusted for inflation. Compensation for federal employees is only 6.6% of the total Federal spending.
We have refused to increase certain Government salaries to be equivalent with Contractor salaries.
A big reason for farming out work is so popular is the Contracting companies’ political donations.
Therefore, we have a few govies, in our current model, managing the Contract staff. Here is the problem-- it is a WASTE of taxpayer money in many situations.
In all multi-person contractor scenario, there are two, government and contractor -- contract officers, accountants, and project managers, one side Contractor one side Government. Then the contract staff have company overhead added to their hourly salary. The Government must generate multiple documents per project, for contractors to bid on, and follow. You have the whole bidding process. Then the Contractors must generate documents for the contract. All unnecessary if govies do the work.
Paid them more equitably and expect more.
Government staff, not contractors, are the glue that keeps the mission functioning when a new outsider is made a senior official. Usually these positions are political payoffs, and these people often do not have the background, or experience, for the job.
