Ultra-processed foods poisoning our children
From Washington Post.
About 60 percent of packaged baby food sold in the United States doesn’t meet nutritional standards established by the World Health Organization, according to recently published research that opens a window into the role that inadequate diet poses in children’s health.
This foods and drinks have too much salt, sugar, not enough nutritional value, and are making unvalidated nutrition claims. Starting in the 80’s ultra-processed foods are now given to infants and toddlers. We need to protect them while they are too young to have a say.
Obesity and other chronic diseases such as fatty liver, once primarily associated with adults, are increasingly being diagnosed in children.
While dozens of baby food brands are sold in the United States, only a handful of companies control these brands.
Why isn’t our FDA cracking down on this? Why do we have to hope, or plead, with our Politicians to step up and address this issue?
We don’t have to.
We can do it ourselves with the Voters Voice Amendment as part of the U.S. Constitution.
